From humble beginnings....
Loum Engineering (previously named Anthony, Thomson & Company) was founded in January 1996 by two hard working technicians, Loum Anthony Gasi, and his business partner, Ojara Thomson Dabi.
Their dedication to their craft, positive attitude and hard work saw them push through the barriers of the war around them in northern Uganda, and continue to grow their business.
From humble beginnings, their small home workshop in St. Joe sub-ward, quickly became a hive of activity attracting a lot of attention in community and multiple projects on the go. They swiftly outgrew the premises and in February 1998, they constructed a new metal and carpentry workshops, office and hardware shop in Lacor centre, opposite the wall fence of St. Mary's hospital Lacor for their rapidly growing business.
Seeing the business expand and develop, Okello Dominic, son of Loum Anthony, joined the business in 2013. With the initial workshop situated on the family compound young Dominic spent 95% his childhood days at the workshop with his dad right from the age of 5 years old. Since then he developed massive passion in building and civil engineering his father being a major inspiration.
In his youthful days, he worked as a manual labourer (Helper) on construction sites whilst completing his studies, he also ventured deeply into painting and decoration before officially joining the business.
After graduating from Kyambogo University in 2012 with a Bachelor degree in Economics and Statistics, he joined the company the following year with a great passion in the industry. Due to high thirst for more knowledge, Okello Dominic enrolled for a national diploma course in Building and civil engineering at Uganda technical college, Lira while working in the company. After completing this two year course, he graduated and became a highly qualified technician.
His wealth of knowledge and passion for engineering continues, later leading him to go for further studies at the same institute where he studied for two more years while working at Loum engineering Ltd and this time he graduated as a technologist. The uniqueness in achieving his knowledge is the beauty of balancing field work from Monday to Friday and classroom work from Friday evening to Sunday evening. After becoming a technologist, he joined the construction Company full time with a clear vision of pushing it further than where he found it.
With the tragic passing of the managing director in December 2020, Dominic became the managing director of the construction company and has dedicated himself to continuing the legacy of his father in the rapidly growing construction industry.
Dominic’s enthusiasm and dedication to his profession, much like his father, will ensure the longevity of Loum Engineering. His commitment to quality construction, safe worksites for staff, delivery of projects on time and within budget, and his ability to take time to understand his client’s needs, will lead the business well into its next phase of development.
With its door always opened to students for industrial training, in various fields like architecture, Building and civil engineering, Welding and fabrication, Loum Engineering has also been a huge inspiration to the youths in and around Gulu city over the past years.
The premise in Lacor centre remains the current workshop, housing a multitude of crafts under the same roof, including architecture and design, welding and fabrication, Building and civil engineering departments . The premise is the base for all their construction equipment, trucks, and seasoned timber.
At Loum Engineering, "We Plan with you, we deliver to you".
